We asked Paul a few questions regarding his gambling history, style and experiences.
How many years have you been handicapping and where are you based out of?
I live in Dallas, Texas and have been handicapping for 23 years.
Tell us about your Handicapping Achievements?
Finished second in total profit during the 2005 college football regular season and bowls as monitored by the respected The Sports Monitor of Oklahoma City. Also a regular guest on various Las Vegas radio programs and often quoted in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Why did you decide to join Who2beton?
After being introduced to the site by a fellow handicapper and colleague, Jim Kruger, I was immediately impressed. Once the invitation was presented, I naturally accepted and hope to enjoy a long and prosperous relationship for all involved parties.
What are the Systems and methods you use for Selections?
I am primarily a fundamental handicapper who tirelessly combs through statistics and other information to develop a strong understanding of the teams and their various parts. I also use some historical technical trends in arriving at my selections, while closely examining scheduling and emotional factors as well. For me, however, it usually comes down to fundamental matchups and comparing my "number" to the linemaker's.
How do you Rate your Selections?
- 3* - Action Bets
- 4* - Best Bets
- 5* - Top Plays - Title Games like Game of Month and Year
What are the Sports you are best at Winning in?
College football is my first love and has historically been my strongest sport, while college basketball, especially March Madness, comes in a close second. I have worked very hard this offseason to prepare for the 2007 NFL season.
Name something people tend to overlook or miss when handicapping a game?
Offensive line play; the performance of the kicking game; and even injuries _ which may seem minor to the untrained eye _ are just some of the elements sometimes overlooked by novice "weekend warrior" handicappers.
Do you have any Superstitions?
I do not really have any superstitions per se. My greatest fear would be that someone out there still has the nightlight on and might be outworking me.
What is your Favorite movie of all time (doesn't have to be gambling related)?
Not much of a movie-goer since most of my time is consumed by watching and handicapping sports. "Remember the Titans," however, is certainly a recent movie which projected the camaraderie and unity generated by a bunch of high school-aged boys playing the game of football.
Is their one piece of advice you can give to new gamblers?
Be selective and exercise discipline at all times, while concentrating your efforts on those sports you have the most knowledge.
