Jim Avery
Who is Mr. Avery?
We asked Jim a few questions regarding his gambling history, style and experiences.
Where are you based out of?
I am an ex-Canadian, who started my betting career in Boston, while at school. Since 2002, I have made my home in Las Vegas Nevada.
How man Years have you been Handicapping?
I started betting as a passtime in the early 90's. In 1998, I become a full time professional sports bettor and developed the systems I still use to this day. With that said, this is my 1st year as a "handicapper" selling plays to the general public and I am extremely excited.
Tells us about your Handicapping Achievements?
As this is my 1st year selling plays, the only thing I can hang my hat on, is 10 years of making a living gambling on sports and never in that time having a losing year. I have had losing seasons in a particular sport, but I am at 10 straight years as a winning bettor.
Why did you decide to join Who2beton?
To be honest, The Prez called me in February and enticed me to join his team. I never considered releasing my plays to the general public before, but with Who2beton showing their records and being so honest, I felt I found my home. Who2beton was the perfect choice for me, because of the great people, the fantastic capping team, and the fact the all of my records will be 100% documented and accurate.
What systems and methods do you use for your selections?
After fiddling around in school with his computer, I started to develop a system that picked sports winners. When I finished my Computer Sciences degree, I decided to spend some time fine tuning my picks system. That was in 1998, it's 2007 and I am still making big money. I started with just football, but after years of fine tuning, I now have programs in place for CFL, NFL, NBA, and NHL, that turn out profits year after year.
How do you Rate your Selections?
All of my plays take every variable possible and run it through my sport specific algorythm. Each play is graded with a 1-5 Unit count, and I NEVER Release any play that is under 3 Units.
- My Action Bets are 3 Units,
- Best Bets are 4 Units and my
- Title games are 5 Unit plays.
Can you name something people tend to overlook or miss when handicapping a game?
What people seem to never take into consideration, in more specifically football games, is the weather. When playing outdoors there is nothing that is more important to take into account than the weather. The books know this and adjust their lines accordingly, for the most part, but if you are smart and don't fall into their trick line traps, you can isolate some big winners, and make a lot of cash by being an accurate meteoroligist.
What are the Sports you excel at?
I built my capping system around the NFL, so I would definately call that my bread and butter. I feel I am just as strong in NBA, NHL, and CFL betting. I have spent years on each sport system and algorythm I put together, and I would list those 4 sports as my top 4.
Can you give one piece of advice to new gamblers?
There is nothing more important than knowing how to manage your cash, and not get tempted to cash out on big winning nights. We are in this for the long haul, not for a quick buck. Don't play above your limits, and be prepared for a couple losing nights. The worst thing you could do is to double your bets after a losing night, remember its an entire season, not just a week.
