2006 PREVIEW

As much as we love Steve Fisher as a head coach, we think he will have his hands full this season.

Billy Volek is now the starting quarterback after the Titans traded away Steve McNair to Baltimore. Volek has done a nice job in a fill-in role throughout his brief career, but is he really a starting-caliber quarterback? We have our doubts. Once Tennessee falls out of contention, which may come early, there is always a chance that Vince Young could get an early chance to show what he can do in the NFL. Personally we have our doubts about him as an NFL quarterback also, and we feel that Matt Leinart would have been a much smarter choice with the third pick in the draft. The running game could be decent with Chris Brown, Travis Henry and second round draft pick LenDale White of USC. Brown tops the depth chart for now because he is the best blocker of the bunch, and Tennessee does not have a true third-down back. The receiving corps is just adequate even with the addition of David Givens from New England.

The defense was once the cornerstone of this franchise, but it looked downright porous at times last season. Furthermore the Titans lost two starters in linebacker Rocky Boiman and safety Tank Williams, and they really did not add any help to speak off. Considering the toughness of the AFC South, this squad will have a tough time keeping pace, as even the upstart Houston Texans appear to have more of an upside right now. This team has fallen quickly in recent years, and we are picking it to finish in the cellar this season.

2006 Prediction: 4 th Place AFC South
