2006 PREVIEW

This team had a down year last year because the offense failed to generate anything, ranking 24 th in the league in total yards. However that should change with the acquisition of Steve McNair, who instantly becomes the best quarterback this franchise has had since moving to Baltimore.

All things considered, Coach Brian Billick had done a remarkable job with this team without a real quarterback, even winning a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer. He should be doing cartwheels now with McNair on board, who will find a friendly target on the other side of his passes in wide receiver Derrick Mason. That combination helped McNair win a co-MVP Award with the Titans, and we feel that hook-up should be phenomenal again. The threat of a passing game may result in a nice comeback season for running back Jamal Lewis, who managed just 906 yards and three touchdowns last year with opposing teams putting seven players in the box. Lewis will also have some nice support as the Ravens signed Mike Anderson, who led the Denver Broncos in rushing last season.

This team is always strong defensively, and 2005 was no different as the unit ranked 4 th in the entire NFL in yards allowed. It should be more of the same this year, especially with the addition of first round draft pick defensive tackle Haloti Ngata out of Oregon. This is a very dangerous squad now that it actually has an offense, and we look for the Ravens to jump up to second in the division and challenge for the playoffs, although we see them falling just short of that goal.

2006 Prediction: 2 nd Place AFC North
