LOUISIANA TECH BULLDOGS O:8 D:2
The Bulldogs closed out their 2005 campaign by winning five of their last six overall, and pasted Fresno State in their finale ultimately squashing the Bulldogs shot at a WAC Championship. Head Coach Jack Bicknell III was offered an extension at season’s end, and he brings back a talented roster that lacks many returning starters from a year ago. However, the offense returns eight and is loaded in the backfield with a couple bright RB prospects. The Bulldogs will continue to pound the ball this season behind a decent O-Line until the coaching staff feels comfortable airing it out with their new man under center. The defense only returns two starters from ’05, and must replace their top five interior linemen and three of their four starting LB’s. Half of Tech’s secondary depth returns from last season, but it loses its top 1 st Team WAC CB so don’t look for much improvement in the pass defense. K Danny Horwedel led the WAC in scoring and field goals made per game, while return men Weldon Brown and Jackson helped Tech rank 19th nationally in kickoff returns. Look for this unit to be the bright spot for the Bulldogs right out of the gates. This is by far the most inexperienced squad HC Bicknell has ever fielded, and a transition/rebuilding year is in store for the folks down in Ruston. Their schedule is brutal; especially non-conference, and they have to play at Boise and Hawaii. Also expect November 24 to be a gruesome evening when Fresno pays the ‘Dogs a visit seeking redemption.
