Dan Hawkins turned the Broncos into the elite team of the WAC throughout his tenure in Boise. From 2002-04, the Broncos went a stellar 36-3 and finished in the top 25 all three season’s. After 2005’s average campaign, he chose to leave for Colorado and his predecessor was found within the program. New Head Coach, Chris Peterson, had been Boise’s offensive coordinator during the Hawkins era. QB Jared Zabransky is back for his senor campaign, and looks to get back in the fans good graces after an erratic showing in ‘05. The O-Line is simply one of the WAC’s finest, and should improve upon last year’s stats. The WR corps is the most experienced unit Boise’s had in quite some time, and this offense should either match or surpass last year’s PPG total, 36, with ease. Defensively, the Broncos also return nine men from last year’s unit that allowed an average of 24 PPG. The Broncos rush defense has ranked in the top 16 in each of the last four seasons, and the D-Line returns almost fully intact with loads of depth. The LB corps, anchored by pre-season WAC Defensive Player of the year candidate Korey Hall, is one of the conferences elite. The secondaries numbers fell last season, but look for them to climb back amongst the nation’s elite with all four starters back and loads of experience behind them. With both kicker’s back and a solid return game, look for the Broncos to be one of the better special teams unit in the country. Last season was one the Broncos would rather forget. Their home winning streak was snapped in the MPC Computers Bowl vs. BC, and they lost their first WAC game in 31 tries when they paid a visit to Fresno. Still, they won a share of the WAC Title, and come into 2006 with renewed optimism. This club has the roster and the schedule to make an unblemished run at a BCS Bowl, but that all depends on how the new coaching staff settles in.
