TROY TROJANS O:8 D:4
The Trojans suffered only their second losing season in the last seven years in ’05, and made a complete overhaul on the offensive side of the ball because of it. Troy has never been known for its offense, but that could change for good in 2006. Head Coach Larry Blakeney brought in Tony Franklin to call the shots for his new spread offense that has Troy’s eight offensive returning starters licking their chops for the upcoming campaign. QB Omar Haugabook picked the offense up quickly in spring drills, which is a good omen for this club considering they boast the SBC’s most experienced WR corps. What an excellent time to change offensive philosophies!!! Look for this offense to be in high gear once SBC play picks up, and for them to easily surpass the paltry 16 PPG they put up on the board last season. The defense has a number of holes to fill within its front seven, but the secondary looks to be in great shape with six of their top eight cover men back. Funny, the defense might actually have to rely on the offense to keep them in games in ’06, but HC Blakeney always fields solid defensive clubs so look for this unit to start peaking come SBC time. Troy gets to host the predicted top dawgs in the conference, so there is an outside shot they could contend for SBC top honors. However, the change in offensive philosophies and shortage of experience on defense leads one to believe that ’06 will lead to bigger and brighter things down the road.
