TEXAS A&M AGGIES O:7 D:7
Since leaving the University of Alabama on short notice four year’s ago, HC Dennis Franchione has amassed a record of 16-19 SU and the folks in College Station are getting restless. Whispers down south have been overheard saying this has to be the year the Aggies make some noise, or else. With 14 returning starters, there’s definitely a chance they can live up to the expectations. QB Stephen McGee will now hold the reigns as the offenses field general. He’s the kid that almost led the Aggies to a huge upset over Texas in last year’s regular season finale. RB Courtney Lewis is also back looking to have his best year ever in his senior campaign, but he’ll have to share the rock with TB Jorvorskie Lane whose big body punished opposing defenses last season. The O-Line is loaded with talent and looks to be one of the better Big 12 front walls. Look for the Aggies to have a super running game in ’06. Defensively, the Aggies look stout in their front seven. MLB Justin Warren is back to anchor the LB corps, and the front wall looks like a “Wrecking Crew” unit. The secondary was torched last season, and has had a full off-season to work on better mechanics and techniques to improve.
The Aggies were ravaged by injuries a year ago, and it was the main reason they couldn’t achieve the bowl minimum of six victories. They loaded up their non-conference slate with creampuffs this year, and get to play every one of those games in the state of Texas. Three of their four Big 12 road games fall in the “Very” winnable category, and there’s no doubt they’ll be playing with a chip on their shoulder this year. This program is due to make some noise in the Big 12, and it looks like they have the roster to do so. As long as they remain healthy, look for HC Franchione to go bowling with the Aggies for only the second time in his tenure.
