DUKE BLUE DEVILS O:4 D:7

Even though the Blue Devils put forth a 1-10 season in 2005, they found their QB, RB, and WR of the future. Head Coach Ted Roof has brought in another decent crop of rookies, and will have to rely on them to make plays again as this is still a very young team. The success of the offense ultimately hinges on the retooled O-Line. Playmakers did step up throughout all of 2005, and QB Zack Asack proved he could compete in the rugged ACC by throwing for 966 yards in only six starts. He’s got a deep and experienced RB corps in back of him, which should keep opposing defenses honest since they lose their top three WR’s from last year. Duke only managed 16 PPG last season, but could improve on that number if the front wall proves capable. Defensively, the Blue Devils were gouged for 400+ YPG and 37 PPG. Seven starters return on that side of the ball, and the front wall gets an added boost with their best D-Line prospect ever in Vince Oghobaase. They also boast playmakers at LB and in the secondary, and should make a drastic improvement on last year’s numbers if they can avoid the injury bug. Still, it’s no secret that Duke Football just isn’t up to speed with the rest of the conference. Their schedule is once again brutal, but their overall play should get better. They’re still the doormats of the ACC, but at least they’ll be more competitive in ’06.
