The Chicago Bulls had a few dates circled on their current nine-game road trip. One was last Sunday in Miami. The next comes Wednesday, when the Bulls visit the Atlantic Division-leading Philadelphia 76ers.
Chicago Bulls at Philadelphia 76ers (-2, 181)
When: 7:00 PM ET, Wednesday, February 1, 2012
Where: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Derrick Rose recovered from his end-of-game hiccup in Miami to score a season-high 35 points in a win over Washington on Monday and will likely again be operating without his two biggest offensive helpers in Luol Deng and Richard Hamilton. The 76ers have crushed lesser teams en route to their lofty record but have yet to prove they can hang with the best. Philadelphia and Chicago rank No. 1 and 2, respectively, in defensive points allowed.

Ryan Boatright or no Ryan Boatright, Connecticut has problems. The defending national champions dropped out of the rankings for the first time this season on Monday, following a three-game losing streak. Freshman guard Boatright, who was sitting while the NCAA sorted out his eligibility, returned to the lineup on Sunday but did little to spark the offense in a 50-48 home loss to Notre Dame. The Huskies’ big problem has been at the end of games, with each of the last three losses coming by three points or less. One thing No. 14 Georgetown has been able to do well is finish out in close games.

The Washington Capitals will try to end their three-game losing streak on the road when they face the Florida Panthers on Wednesday in a battle for first place in the Southeast Division. Washington, which leads Florida by one point, attempts to increase its advantage without Alex Ovechkin. The captain will serve the third and final game of his suspension for his hit on Pittsburgh’s Zbynek Michalek on Jan. 22. The Capitals have earned three of a possible four points without Ovechkin but are 0-0-1 on their three-game road trip. Florida has dropped three straight at home and seven of nine overall.
The Panthers figure to have the edge as the home team has won four straight and six of seven in the all-time series.
