Washington Nationals prospect Bryce Harper required assistance leaving the field with an apparent hamstring injury on Thursday. Harper was playing in a Class AA game for the Nationals’ Harrisburg team in Akron, Ohio.
The Nationals announced that Harper is suffering from a right hamstring strain, and will likely be placed on the seven-day disabled list.
Harper pulled up lame while running from first to third base in the eighth inning, and was helped by two teammates into the clubhouse.
The Washington radio station WTOP reported that the severity of Harper’s injury won’t be disclosed until the Nationals have a chance to evaluate him on Friday.
Harper, 18, was the first overall pick in baseball’s 2010 draft. Since being promoted to Class AA, he has hit .254 with 12 RBIs and 3 homers in 36 games.
