MINNEAPOLIS — Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is back in the team’s lineup for the first time in over a month.
Rodriguez is making his return from surgery that repaired a torn meniscus in his right knee. He had been playing through the pain since suffering the injury June 19, but last played July 7 and underwent surgery four days later.
Rodriguez played in four rehab games – two with Class A Tampa, and two with Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre – before rejoining the Yankees in Minnesota on Thursday.
After returning to the team, he worked out for three days in an effort to improve his conditioning.
Manager Joe Girardi slipped him back into the lineup on Sunday for the series finale against the Minnesota Twins. He’s currently listed as hitting cleanup and playing third base.
Rodriguez, who turned 36 while on the disabled list, hit .295 with 13 home runs and 52 RBIs through his first 80 games.
