Alex Corbisiero, the giant London Irish prop forward, wins his third cap in the only change to the England starting line-up for the Six Nations match against Scotland at London’s Twickenham Stadium on Sunday.
Coach Martin Johnson named his side at noon today. There had been some suggestion that after wins over Wales, Italy and, vitally, defending champions France, Johnson might take the opportunity against an underwhelming Scotland team to try some changes to his personnel.
Some pundits called for Bath wing Matt Banahan to get a call-up in the center, or even for the possibility of Jonny Wilkinson to be given his first start for England this year.
But instead, Johnson has opted to maintain the continuity that has seen his England side continue to progress in confidence and accomplishment since last fall, in a campaign where much attention is already turning towards the World Cup in New Zealand later this year.
Corbisiero takes over from Andrew Sheridan, who is out for the rest of the series following an early injury in the 17-9 win against France.
There are two changes on the replacements bench for the Calcutta Cup match, the 128th meeting between England and Scotland.
Paul Doran-Jones (Gloucester) takes the place vacated by Corbisiero while flanker Tom Croft (Leicester) takes over from Hendre Fourie (Leeds).
Croft returns to the squad for the first time since sustaining a shoulder injury against South Africa in November.
