If you are a big tennis bettor, your options pretty much vanish for 2010 after this weekend’s ATP World Finals. But there is one more event this year that will satisfy your tennis betting jones: The Davis Cup final.
Serbia takes on France in the matches Dec. 3-5 and the Serbs are big 5/12 favorites on Bodog. They finalized their roster this week with Novak Djokovic leading the Serbian team. At No. 3 in the world, he will be the highest-ranked player in the final. He has won all five of the singles matches he has played to lead Serbia to its first ever final. The International Tennnis Federation said that Viktor Troicki, Janko Tipsarevic and Nenad Zimonjic were also selected by Serbia for the matches on an indoor hard court in Belgrade.
France will be led by Gael Monfils and the team also includes Michael Llodra, Gilles Simon, Richard Gasquet and Arnaud Clement. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is out with a knee injury and so is doubles specialist Julien Benneteau.
Monfils lost the final just over a week ago at the Paris Masters while Llodra reached the semifinals and took a win over Djokovic. Monfils is the only sure pick so far for singles with dual-threat Llodra penciled in for doubles. Captain Guy Forget says he will wait until the last minute before deciding on the final four-man composition of his team and which player will play in the second singles spot.
“I’ve more or less got an idea but I hope to have a clearer one from this training preparation and after I’ve seen what the courts are like in Belgrade because the speed (of the surface) will be a determining factor in my choice,” Forget said. “The only player who is almost certain to be on court providing he doesn’t get injured is Gael.”
The Serbs have never won the Davis Cup but team captain Bogdan Obradovic believes his team should be the favorite. Certainly the fans will be a big factor as this is the biggest tennis event ever in the country.
